	Anise Castile Soap Anise is one of the oldest known spices mentioned in records long before the birth of Christ. It comes from the mature star-shaped fruit of a small evergreen tree belonging to the magnolia family. The tree is native to China and Vietnam and has not been successfully grown elsewhere. Our anise soap has a warm and pleasant licorice scent. We grind up fragrant star anise seeds into a powder and incorporate this with the essential oil of anise. A great soap for fishermen: the aroma of anise is alluring to bass and masks human scent.	$2.50

	Balsam Peru Castile Soap Not to be confused with the evergreen fir, the oil of the Balsam Peru tree has a warm vanilla-like fragrance. The tree grows in Guatemala, San Salvador, and Hondoras but, oddly enough, not in Peru. The oil is obtained by removing the bark at the foot of the tree and burning it to make the resin exude. The unique scent of Balsam Peru makes a very gratifying bar of soap.	$2.50

In fact, the Latin name salvia derives from a word meaning “healthy”. Modern research confirms that sage has many therapeutic properties. It is an astringent, a strong disinfectant, and has antiseptic qualities as well. Our sage oil comes from Dalmatia. 	Cinnamon Castile Soap Cinnamon oil comes from the bark and leaves of trees belonging to the laurel family. Cinnamon is perhaps the most ancient of spices and was mentioned in the treatise of a Chinese emperor as early as 2700 BCE. In the Book of Exodus, God tells Moses to take cinnamon with him, among other things, on his flight from Egypt. The Book of Proverbs, however, warns against the woman who perfumes her bed with this fragrance. To make our stimulating, exotic soap we blend together ground cinnamon bark with cinnamon leaf oil from Ceylon. Cinnamon helps warm and arouse the circulatory system and may be used to relax tense muscles. Extremely sensitive skin-types may find cinnamon a bit of an irritant.	$2.50

	Clove Castile Soap The clove tree is a flowering evergreen and the properties of the oil from this tree were well known to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. The oil that we use in our clove soap is distilled from the leaves of trees that are native to Madagascar.
